The drug hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin hormone) is similar to LH; it is normally produced from human placenta. HCG is a hormone that supports the normal development of an egg in a woman's ovary, and stimulates the release of the egg during ovulation.

Failure to ovulate properly can cause female fertility, and the most common treatment approach is ovulation induction with medications such as clomiphene and/or hcg injections. The injection can be given either intramuscularly or subcutaneously by self-injection (e.g. Profasi and Pregnyl).

Human chorionic gonadtropin is most beneficial to women who are experiencing ovulation disorders. HCG is used to cause ovulation and to treat infertility in women, and also in men, to increase sperm count.
