Movatec

meloxicam

Movatec is in a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs). NSAIDs effectively reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Inflammation is the body's protective response to irritation or injury and is characterized by redness, warmth, swelling and pain. NSAIDs are used to treat a variety of conditions that cause pain and swelling of joints such as rheumatoid arthritis and tendinitis.

This medicine is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis (arthritis caused by a breakdown of the lining of the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints). It is also used to relieve the pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (a type of arthritis that affects children) in children 2 years of age and older. Movatec treats the symptoms of the mentioned disorders, not the disorder itself.

Meloxicam works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX). Cyclo-oxygenase is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body, some of which are known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced by the body in response to injury and certain diseases and conditions, and cause pain, swelling and inflammation. Meloxicam blocks the production of these prostaglandins and is therefore effective at reducing inflammation and pain.

It may take up to two weeks before the full benefits of this drug take effect. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day.
